Rosacea is a disease that gives the skin on the face a rosey red color that varies depending on the patient's psychological state, temperature, and sometimes can be aggravated by certain foods. It is often treated with topical and/or oral antibiotics with varying degree of success. The general red coloring of the skin is actually due to millions of dilated blood vessels, and new advancements with lasers have proven to be much more effective than antibiotic treatment.
Facial acne is often caused by the same bacteria as rosacea. Similar lasers that are successful in treating rosacea have been shown to be effective in treating acne.
The Vein Center & CosMed has all the newest laser technology and can treat rosacea successfully without any medications. Sometimes, within the general red discoloration of the skin, there are even larger abnormal blood vessels which can be seen with the naked eye. These are called telangiectasias and no antibiotic is successful at eliminating these visible blood vessels. They, too, are best treated with laser therapy which is performed daily at The Vein Center & CosMed.
